Firecement is only useful for repairing small cracks or sealing joints. If you need a rendering material then use KOS Heatproof Screed.

Q2 Back to TOP

If the repair must be done in situ then use KOS Mouldable Firebrick otherwise cast a new brick in a wooden mould using KOS Heatproof Screed

.

A refractory castable such as 1500M is suitable for lining the inside of an oil drum, for example. This is a dry material which is mixed with water and can be installed in the same way as concrete.

Q4 Back to TOP

Ordinary firecement is a putty consistency and as such is not suitable for laying bricks. To lay firebricks you should use our KOS Heatproof Mortar.

Q5 Back to TOP

The firecement will set eventually without heat but the application of heat accelerates the process.

Q6 Back to TOP

Ordinary Gypsum Plaster starts to break down at around 50oC. We recommend using our Heat Resistant Plaster in the hottest area of the chimney breast.

Q7 Back to TOP

Jetcem already contains some sand. You can mix sand or small aggregate to a maximum of 50 : 50.

Q8 Back to TOP

Marble, in common with some of the very expensive continental tiles, is quite porous. Before using fixatile the reverse of the marble should be sealed with PVA or if using tiles then they should be soaked in water first.

For outdoor use you should use the KOS Heatproof Screed. If necessary for bigger jobs we can supply this material in 25 kilo bags instead of the 10kg & 20 Kilo tubs.
